Sepp van den Berg to miss remainder of 2022

Schalke have today confirmed that Sepp van den Berg (20) will miss the remainder of 2022 after a diagnosis showed a serious ligament injury. The Dutch youth international sustained the ankle injury in their 3-2 Bundesliga defeat against Augsburg on Sunday evening. Rodrigo Zalazar also suffered a fractured metatarsal and will be out for the remainder of the calendar year.

“This is really tough news,” said Schalke sporting director Rouven Schröder. “In the past, we have already shown several times that we are able to deal with injury-related absences, however serious they are, as a team and this time we will manage it as well. We have full confidence in the squad. We wish Sepp and Rodri a speedy recovery, and we will be supporting them fully during their recoveries so that they are back on the pitch as soon as possible.”

Van den Berg joined Schalke on loan from Liverpool and has played in four Bundesliga games this season.
