Schalke amongst several clubs interested in Freiburg’s Keven Schlotterbeck

According to Bild, Schalke 04 are one of several clubs interested in Keven Schlotterbeck from SC Freiburg.

The 25-year-old has hardly featured for Freiburg this season under head coach Christian Streich and wishes to leave the club in order for more game time. So far this season, Schlotterbeck has only played a total of 12 minutes for Freiburg. However, as per the report, Schlotterbeck has plenty of options coming his way.

Schalke are joined by fellow relegation rivals VfL Bochum as well as Mainz 05 and FC Nürnberg. Schalke and Bochum are reportedly the most likely destinations for the brother of BVB star Nico Schlotterbeck. Both sides are in need of defensive reinforcements and Schlotterbeck could play a big role in either Schalke or Bochum’s season.

Bochum head coach also confirmed his side’s interest: “He is a player that we know and who recently expressed his wish to change. Of course we talk about him internally – as well as about other names.”

A move to Schalke may make more sense for the defender. Currently, the royal blues are missing defender Leo Greiml and Liverpool loanee Sepp van den Berg through injury.
