Robert Glatzel rejected Schalke among others to stay with Hamburg

When Hamburg missed out on Bundesliga promotion via the play-offs, their in-form striker had many offers from Bundesliga clubs including Schalke, Stuttgart, Mainz, Augsburg and Union Berlin.

As reported by Bild, Glatzel was very close to joining newly-promoted Schalke with a framework already in place for the 28-year-old to join.

However, the German forward decided to continue at HSV as he signed a contract extension until 2025.

Glatzel explained: “I had offers that would have landed me directly in the Bundesliga. These were also economically more attractive, I make no secret of that. But I felt that my mission in Hamburg is far from over, that staying in Hamburg is the only right thing to do. I definitely want to get promoted with HSV.”

The striker scored 27 goals in 41 competitive games for Hamburg last season after joining the 2. Bundesliga side from Cardiff City last summer for €1 million.
