Pellegrino Matarazzo on Dan-Axel Zagadou: “What I like is the personality and presence he brings.”

Speaking to the media before Stuttgart’s game against Wolfsburg, Pellegrino Matarazzo spoke on new signing Dan-Axel Zagadou, who recently joined VfB on a free transfer after he left Borussia Dortmund when his contract expired.

“He brings a calmness to what he does, he can read situations in the game, has a very good left foot, and can use his body in the challenge,” said Matarazzo. “What I also like is the personality and presence he brings on the training pitch. He wants to win games, even in training and that rubs off on the lads.”

Zagadou will be hoping to prove that he still has the potential he possesses when he first joined Dortmund from PSG in 2017. The 23-year-old was linked with a host of clubs over the summer including West Ham United, Lyon and Manchester United but chose VfB. The Frenchman will be hoping he can play a key role in helping VfB stay in the league.

The defender joins Konstantinos Mavropanos, Waldemar Anton and Hiroki Ito as Stuttgart’s senior centre backs.
