Pellegrino Matarazzo asks for ‘intensity’ as Stuttgart look to secure Bundesliga status

Speaking ahead of Stuttgart’s crucial Bundesliga game against FC Köln on Saturday, head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo believes his side can win and avoid relegation to the 2. Bundesliga.

“We’re going into the game with the feeling that we can only win. We want to do everything we can with our performance to get the three points and maintain the chance of staying in the league directly and we hope Hertha don’t score,” said Matarazzo.

“We need good intensity on the pitch at the start. For us it’s important that we start well, similar to how we did in Munich. We’re tackling the task together.”

Wary of the threat that Köln forward Anthony Modeste possesses, Matarazzo added: “Modeste has scored 19 goals. Eliminating him will be important. He has outstanding timing on crosses and anticipates where the ball is coming from. That’s an incredible quality.”

Hiroki Ito is expected to be fit enough but there’s still question marks over the fitness of Silas Katompa Mvumpa.
