Official | Urs Fischer extends Union Berlin deal beyond 2023

Union Berlin have today announced the contract extension of head coach Urs Fischer beyond 2023. Since his appointment in 2018, the 56-year-old has established Union in the Bundesliga on a minimal budget. Die Eisernen currently sit top and are five points clear of Bayern Munich after seven games.

“Urs Fischer is an excellent coach who, together with the entire coaching team, has led us into the most successful sporting phase in our club’s history,” said Union president Dirk Zingler.

“Our work together has always been characterised by a great mutual respect and trust, and our talks about a continuing of this relationship proceeded along these lines.”

“There was never any question of not continuing our successful cooperation for any of us. I am very pleased that Urs Fischer and Markus Hoffmann will remain Unioners in the coming years.”

Fischer added: “What we have been able to experience together over the last few years is incredible. I find it hard to put into words. As I have often said, I feel very much at home at Union.

“The daily work together with the squad, as with the whole team here, achieved through the conditions that the club provides, and all the human interactions with each other, all of these have been important factors for our success in the past four years.”

Assistant Markus Hoffmann has also signed a contract extension.
