Steffen Baumgart has extended his contract at FC Köln, the club has confirmed

The 50-year-old’s contract originally ran until 2023 but has now been extended until 2024.

Since joining the club in 2021, the Billy Goats have experienced somewhat of a renaissance under Baumgart.

Last season, Köln secured European football having finished 7th place with 52 points.

Just a year before, the side were on the brink of relegation but fortunately beat Holstein Kiel in the relegation play-off.

In a statement, Baumgart said: “We agreed relatively quickly in the talks that we wanted to continue working together. I like being here at FC. I’ve always emphasized that. It’s great fun. And that is the most important thing to me.”

The club’s sporting director Christian Keller expressed his joy by saying: “There is good news at the start of training. Steffen has prematurely extended his contract with FC until the summer of 2024. We deliberately extended it by a year because we decided to always sit together on an annual basis in the future.”
