Official | Schalke sign Alexander Schwolow

Schalke 04 have signed goalkeeper Alexander Schwolow from Hertha Berlin on a season-long loan deal.

S04 sporting director Rouven Schröder welcomed the move, saying: “Alexander is an experienced goalkeeper that will provide our team with some stability. He’s shown his quality at all his previous clubs. We are confident that he will improve our goalkeeping team and that he can contribute to us achieving our targets next season.

“Alex is happy to give up a lot of money to move to Schalke. He made it clear to us that playing football is his absolute priority.”

Schwolow has made 55 appearances in the German capital since joining from SC Freiburg in 2020. The 30-year-old was a regular for Die Alte Dame during the past campaign, making 28 consecutive starts before a muscle injury cut his season short.

He becomes Schalke’s tenth signing of the summer window, following the signing of Florian Mollet. Schwolow will be fighting for a regular spot against the likes of Ralf Fährmann and Justin Heekeren at Die Königsblauen.

Schwolow said: “I’m really pleased that the deal is done, and I will be at Schalke ready for pre-season. I’m aware of the challenges ahead of us – it will be a tough time and I’m ready to get stuck in together with my new teammates.”
