Premier League side Crystal Palace have tonight announced the signing of US international defender Chris Richards (22) from Bayern Munich for a reported €20m including bonuses.
“I grew up watching the Premier League and grew up of course watching [Wilfried] Zaha, so it’ll be cool to spend some time on the field with them [the Palace players] and be a part of this historic club. I’m really excited for it,” Richards told the club’s official website.
“The kind of project I’ve seen [attracted me]. It’s a lot of young players but also young players who have a lot of fight. Palace is a club that seems like they’re always fighting.”
Richards moved to Bayern Munich from FC Dallas in 2018 on an initial loan spell before the move was made permanent for €1m. The central-defender played several games for Bayern U19s and Bayern II before joining Hoffenheim on loan for six months. Richards impressed which resulted in another loan spell at TSG, where he played 33 games across all competitions in 18 months.
The American has signed a five-year deal until 2027.
