Niclas Füllkrug focused on Werder Bremen after missing out on Germany squad

As Germany’s top scorer in the Bundesliga, Niclas Füllkrug discussed not being called up to Hansi Flick’s squad ahead of the UEFA Nations League games against Hungary and England.

“It was clear this was coming,” said Füllkrug. “I would like to communicate how I feel about it. It is the international break right now and I’m sat doing a media round with you guys. I don’t think it makes any sense to start talking about things that aren’t currently a reality. I try to give my best every week and I will do that regardless of the scenario. I give everything for Werder Bremen because I want to be the best version of myself and I always want to develop.”

Clemens Fritz, head of professional football at Werder, and former Germany international, added: “He’s [Füllkrug] a player who can bring another component into the game. We don’t have many of these centre-forwards in Germany. I know that the Bundesliga is of course followed by the DFB, so they will think about who will be nominated for the squad.”

Füllkrug has scored five in seven Bundesliga games this season.
