Max Eberl may take charge of RB Leipzig earlier than expected

Max Eberl may be taking up his new role as sporting director at RB Leipzig earlier than planned. This coincides with the news that RB Leipzig managing director Oliver Mintzlaff will take up a more senior role with Red Bull after the death of Dietrich Mateschitz.

Speaking to ZDF, Mintzlaff said: “I think I can order him to Leipzig two or three weeks earlier.” Eberl had originally planned to take over as sporting director on December 15th.”

Eberl resigned as sporting director of Borussia Mönchengladbach in January due to health reasons. Previously he had spent a total of 22 years at Gladbach in some capacity moving up the ranks from a player to academy manager to sports director. He helped see the club grow from fighting just above the relegation zone to fighting for European places again.

RB Leipzig have impressed of late under Marco Rose, who took charge following the sacking of Domenico Tedesco, and are 12 games unbeaten across all competitions. After a slow start to the campaign, Christopher Nkunku is also making a claim to start in Didier Deschamps’ World Cup squad with 11 Bundesliga goals in 13 games.
