Manchester United turn to Manuel Akanji after missing out on primary candidate Niklas Süle

BILD report this afternoon that Bayern Munich defender Niklas Süle had been Ralf Rangnick’s number one candidate to improve their defence before the 26-year-old agreed to join Borussia Dortmund.

After losing out on Süle, who will join Borussia Dortmund in the summer on a four-year contract, Manchester United have now shown an interest in signing BVB central defender Manuel Akanji.

The Switzerland international has a contract with BVB until 2023 and has already rejected a contract extension offer, reportedly around €9.5m/year, according to Sport1, who are also reporting that Manchester United are interested in signing Akanji in the summer.
