Bayern Munich youngster Mailk Tillman has decided to represent the United States instead of Germany at international level, according to Kicker.
The 19-year-old forward was born in Germany to an American dad and a German mother. Since the age of 15, Tillman has been involved in Germany’s youth set up including four appearances for the U21 team.
However, as per Kicker’s report, the forward has decided to play for the USA on the international stage.
Germany’s U21 coach, Antonio Di Salvo said: “We regret Malik’s decision and it surprised us very much. We encouraged him as a younger player in the U21s, placed a lot of trust in him and gave him match practice. We were also in intensive contact about his prospects up to the senior national team.”
Tillman played heavily for Bayern II this season in the Regionalliga but also featured four times for the first team in the Bundesliga.
