Mainz’s Bo Svensson on Brighton’s shortlist to become head coach

Mainz 05 head coach Bo Svensson is on Brighton’s shortlist to become their next manager, according to The Athletic

Following Graham Potter’s switch from Brighton to Chelsea, the seagulls are taking their time in order to find the right manager. One man of interest is Mainz’s Svensson who has been in charge of the Bundesliga club since January 2021.

The 43-year-old led his side to a respectable 8th place finish last season and has made another impressive start to the Bundesliga this campaign. This is despite a number of first-team players moving to teams with European football.

At Mainz, Svensson works with a young crop of players and develops them as professionals. This season, his team’s average age is just 24.4 years old. This may suit Brighton whose average squad is a similar 24.9 years.

Other candidates that have been linked with the vacant Brighton role include Roberto De Zerbi, formerly of Shakhtar Donetsk, and Bodo/Glimt’s Kjetil Knutsen.
