Mainz target Fenerbahçe attacker Mergim Berisha

Bundesliga side Mainz are interested in signing Mergim Berisha from Fenerbahçe, according to Bild.

M05 are still looking to strengthen two areas in their squad. They want a replacement for Jean-Paul Boëtius, who left the club after his contract expired, and they also want a forward.

Per the report, Berisha would cost around €5m even with three-years remaining on his current Fenerbahçe contract. The former German youth international scored four and created two in 988 minutes across 22 league games last season for the Turkish side.

Berisha lifted the U21 European Championship alongside Mainz players Finn Dahmen, Anton Stach and Jonathan Burkardt – so he should fit in well at the club.

As a successor to Boëtius, Angelo Fulgini (25) from Angers is a name that has been linked but they also face competition from fellow Bundesliga side Borussia Mönchengladbach.

M05 head coach Bo Svensson demanded: “We need more quality.” Both Berisha and Fulgini would offer that.
