Finn Dahmen (24) has confirmed that he will leave Mainz at the end of the season when his contract expires.
Speaking to Sport Bild, via FussballTransfers, Dahmen said: “I’ve decided not to extend my contract in Mainz and to take a new step. The main reason is that I want to play. I’ve waited long enough but the road to No. 1 in Mainz is blocked by Robin Zentner. My path should definitely lead me to a club that sees me as No. 1.”
In August, August submitted an offer to Mainz the former German youth international goalkeeper, who rejected a contract extension at M05. Despite the club informing Dahmen that Zentner would be their No. 1 for the 2022/23 Bundesliga season, a departure from Mainz didn’t materialise over the summer.
Negotiations between the two clubs had been ongoing and Dahmen had reached an agreement with Augsburg to sign a contract until 2026 or 2027, becoming a successor to Rafał Gikiewicz.
Since making his debut at 22, Dahmen has played five games for Mainz.
