Eintracht Frankfurt without Sebastian Rode for historic Champions League opener

Eintracht Frankfurt will be without captain Sebastian Rode for their historic Champions League group stage opener against Sporting CP on Wednesday evening, according to Kicker

The 31-year-old played a crucial part in his side’s 4-0 victory over RB Leipzig last weekend and scored the Eagle’s second of the night. However, just after the hour mark Rode had to be substituted due to a thigh problem.

On Monday, Frankfurt confirmed that Rode: “has suffered a muscle injury in his thigh and will be out for the time being.”

Frankfurt begin their first ever UEFA Champions League campaign on Wednesday when they host Portuguese outfit Sporting CP at the Deutsche Bank Park.

After beating Rangers on penalties in the Europa League final last season, Frankfurt have been awarded a Champions League group that features Sporting CP, Tottenham Hotspur and Olympique de Marseille.

It’s a challenging group but one in which Frankfurt should feel confident that they can qualify from.
