Edmond Tapsoba an alternative to Wesley Fofana for Chelsea

Chelsea have identified Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba (23) as a potential defensive candidate should they fail to sign Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana, according to Sky Germany.

Tapsoba has four-years remaining on his current Bayer Leverkusen contract until 2026, and so a departure for the Burkina Faso central-defender this summer is extremely unlikely.

Chelsea’s third proposal of £70m to Leicester City for Fofana was rejected and so the Premier League club are searching the market for potential alternatives with the September 1 deadline approaching.

Tapsoba joined Bayer Leverkusen from Vitória de Guimarães in 2020 for €20m and has played 94 games across all competitions, collecting 12 yellow cards. Currently without a single point from their opening three Bundesliga games, Tapsoba has played in all three league games this season.

At the moment, Tapsoba is no more than an alternative for Chelsea, with Fofana still their priority signing as they look to strengthen their defence.
