After failed transfer talks with Schalke, Darko Churlinov looks set to return to Stuttgart after a season on loan at Gelsenkirchen, according to Sky Germany.
It’s déjà vu for Schalke fans. Their club hoped to sign loanee players such as Ko Itakura (25) and Darko Churlinov (21) but both times negotiations have broken down.
In the case of Itakura, Schalke failed to meet the transfer fee set by Manchester City. It’s reported that Borussia Mönchengladbach are now the favourites to sign the Japanese international.
With Churlinov, both Schalke and Stuttgart were willing to come to an agreement with Schalke’s sporting director Rouven Schröder preferring another loan deal.
However, Stuttgart’s counterpart Sven Mislintat wanted a mandatory purchase after another year’s loan.
Due to Schalke’s very tight budget, the team from Gelsenkirchen had to call off the talks.
However, not all hope is lost. If Schalke can sell players such as Timo Becker, Salif Sané, Martin Fraisl and Marc Rzatkowski, it may open up their payroll to sign the likes of Churlinov.
