Daniel Farke: “You need to be able to adapt.”

Speaking at his Borussia Mönchengladbach press conference unveiling, new head coach Daniel Farke (45) discussed his game plan and what the Bundesliga side must improve on this season.

“I’m very happy and proud that I can lead this fantastic club. Borussia has great traditions, great fans and is important to so many people. Therefore, I will approach the job with humility,” said Farke.

“I think it is important that a club has clear values and a strong identity. Borussia stands for possession, dominance, creativity and a love of the game. I can identify with all of these things.

“We have a good framework and lots of potential as a team. Borussia conceded too many goals last season and that is something we have to work on.”

Farke discussed the differences between the Bundesliga and Premier League: “It was very intense in England. The quality in the Premier League is very high but the Bundesliga isn’t far behind and the teams here play at a very high level.”

The former Borussia Dortmund II and Norwich City head coach also believes in an adaptive game plan: “There is no handbook that states that you have to play football a certain way,” said Farke. “There are many ways to play the game but you have to have a clear plan. The basic values have to be clear but you need to be able to adapt.”
