Chelsea’s Timo Werner set for RB Leipzig return

Chelsea forward Timo Werner (26) is on the verge of re-joining RB Leipzig, according to Sky Germany.

The Germany forward wants to return to his former club and an agreement is expected in the next week. As of yet, it’s unclear if this is a loan deal on a permanent transfer.

Per the report, there’s been a lot of positive developments over the last few days. After signing David Raum and extending the contract of Christopher Nkunku, this would be a significant transfer coup.

RB Leipzig have also beaten Juventus to the signing of Werner, who wants playing time to improve his chances of making Hansi Flick’s Germany squad for the World Cup.

Between 2016 and 2020, Werner scored 90 and created 40 across 156 in all competitions for RB Leipzig, before joining Chelsea for €53m. In his first season at Chelsea, Werner played 35 Premier League games but this dropped to just 21 last season.
