Borussia Mönchengladbach lead the race to sign Riechedly Bazoer

Borussia Mönchengladbach are leading the race to sign Riechedly Bazoer on a free transfer, according to Bild.

The Vitesse Arnhem centre-back’s contract expires at the end of the month. Die Fohlen are in negotiations with the 25-year-old, but reports suggest that the two parties are a long way from agreeing terms. Per the report, there is also interest in Bazoer from Stuttgart whilst Bayer Leverkusen have dropped out of contention for his services.

Before joining Vitesse in 2019, he was previously at Wolfsburg for two years, making 27 appearances but struggled to earn a regular starting place. Last season, the defender made 44 appearances for Vitesse, scoring twice. He has additionally previously played six times for the senior Dutch international team.

Mönchengladbach are yet to make a signing this summer but are set to sign defender Ko Itakura from Manchester City. Speaking at his unveiling press conference, new head coach Daniel Farke stated a desire improve Gladbach’s defence after they conceded 61 Bundesliga goals last season.
