Borussia Dortmund want to extend the contract of 26-year-old central defender Manuel Akanji beyond 2023 until at least 2026, according to Sport Bild.
“Manuel is an absolute leader who played all the games for us when he was fit. He’s an important factor in our defence and has developed very well. We have a lot of confidence in his abilities so of course, we’ll try to extend his contract,” said Sebastian Kehl, head of the licensed players department at BVB.
The Switzerland international joined Borussia Dortmund in 2017 for around €21.5m from Basel and has established himself as an integral player within the first team.
Per the report, Akanji should receive a salary of around €7m.
