Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel to miss DFL Supercup vs RB Leipzig

Julian Nagelsmann has confirmed that Mathys Tel (17) is not yet eligible to play for Bayern Munich.

“He’s not eligible to play tomorrow, but that’s not dramatic,” Nagelsmann told reporters. “The commission meets only every two weeks. He’s only been here for a few days and first has to get to know the boys. But I’m happy with what I saw, he’s very good at dribbling and quite brave.”

Bild reported on Thursday night that Bayern Munich are still awaiting approval from UEFA. As a result, the French youth international will miss the DFL Supercup vs RB Leipzig.

Tel completed his move to Bayern Munich from Rennes for €28.5m including bonuses on Monday. The French attacker becomes the third most expensive 17-year-old to move to the Bundesliga after Jude Bellingham (€25m) and Jadon Sancho (€20.59m), who joined Borussia Dortmund in 2020 and 2017.

Tel has made a good impression at the club in his first few days.
