Bayern Munich plan to keep Benjamin Pavard but a departure isn’t ruled out

Bayern Munich would like to keep Benjamin Pavard but a departure from the Bundesliga champions isn’t entirely ruled out, according to Kicker.

Decision makers at Bayern are, as of yet, unconvinced that he has the abilities to become a defensive leader at the club, but his versatility and ability to play in central-defence or right-back works in his favour.

The Frenchman has two-years remaining on his current deal and could imagine a departure, but also wants to prove himself at the club.

Bayern Munich signing Noussair Mazraoui from Ajax on a free transfer will likely see Pavard shifted to centre-back following the departure of Niklas Süle to Borussia Dortmund.

However, Bayern Munich’s interest in Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt (22) could play a deciding factor in Pavard’s future. The Dutchman’s arrival would likely see the Frenchman provide back-up rather than cementing a place in Julian Nagelsmann’s starting XI.

Nagelsmann has Lucas Hernandez, Dayot Upamecano, Tianguy Nianzou and Pavard competing for a place in central-defence but should Bayern side De Ligt, it’s possible that one could leave.
