Bayer Leverkusen will allow Mitchell Weiser to join Werder Bremen for free

Werder Bremen’s look to secure the signing of Mitchell Weiser, according to Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes.

Bremen, who recently earned promotion back to the Bundesliga after a campaign in the second tier, have been heavily linked with a move for the 28-year-old right-back, who made 24 appearances on loan at the ‘Werderaner’ last term. Despite him having a contract in Leverkusen until 2023, it is indicated that the ‘Werkself’ will not demand a fee for the German, allowing him to leave as a free agent.

Speaking to Kicker, Rolfes explained: “It is now up to Werder and Weiser to find a solution.” The former Hertha Berlin man is believed to earn €3m per year at the BayArena.

Bremen manager Ole Werner and Co. have already been busy in the transfer window signing Niklas Stark, Dikeni Salifou and Amos Pieper on free transfers from Hertha, Augsburg and Arminia Bielefeld respectively.
