A night of historic firsts for Union Berlin

On Thursday, it was a night to remember for everyone associated with Union Berlin. Not only could they celebrate their first European victory at An der Alten Försterei beating Swedish side Malmö, 1-0, but they secured European football for the coming winter by securing at least a third-place spot.

As per a report by Kicker, Union midfielder Rani Khedira explained: “Everyone in the stadium can feel that it is something special. The evening was so great today with the fans.”

Union fans had to wait until late into the game to celebrate when they were awarded a penalty in the 89th minute. There was a bit of controversy in regards to the call but head coach rs Fischer didn’t seem to mind: “It was a tip of the foot. We’ll take that with us.”

It can’t really get much better for Union Berlin and their fans right there. They’ve secured European football for the turn of the year and currently sit top of the Bundesliga after 9 games. Since their inaugural top-flight campaign in 2020-21, Union continued to get better without spending massively on recruitment.

This weekend, Union hosts fellow top-four side Borussia Dortmund in what is sure to be another memorable occasion in Köpenicker.
