Official | Schalke sign William on loan from Wolfsburg

Schalke have today announced the signing of 25-year-old defender William on loan from fellow Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg on loan until the end of the season.

“I can’t wait to get finally get started with Schalke,” said William. “We have 16 games left to collect the points necessary to stay in the league and I’m eager to achieve this goal with the club.”

Sporting director Jochen Schneider added: “We have signed William to fill our vacant spot at right-back. With him and Timo Becker, head coach Christian Gross now has two different types of players who can play in this position.

“We’re really pleased that, despite our tight budget, we’ve been able to bring a left-back, a right-back and a striker, which were the positions that we had prioritised.”

William will provide Kilian Ludewig (20) and Timo Becker (23) in the right-back position as they look to move off the bottom of the Bundesliga.

The Brazilian has played 83 games in all competitions for Wolfsburg since joining from Internacional in 2017, scoring five and creating seven.

S04 had also enquired about re-signing Everton right-back Jonjo Kenny on loan and had also opened discussions with Eintracht Frankfurt regarding a loan move for Danny da Costa, who has now joined Mainz 05.
