Schalke have announced the appointment of Rouven Schröder as sporting director whilst Mathias Schober has been promoted to director of the Knappenschmiede and development.
“The supervisory board and the board are in agreement that the many sporting tasks cannot be shouldered by just one person, and that we need additional expertise,” said Peter Knäbel, a board member for sport and communication.
“We’ve managed to bring an expert to Schalke in Rouven. He possesses the necessary contacts as well as the expertise in his area. His main task will be to build a new team that can represent Schalke 04 successfully both now and in the future.”
Schröder was Mainz 05’s sporting director from April 2016 until leaving his role at the Bundesliga side in December 2020.
