Nico Elvedi signs contract extension with Gladbach

Bundesliga side Borussia Mönchengladbach have today announced the contract extension of 24-year-old defender Nico Elvedi until 2024.

“We are very happy about Nico’s contract extension,” said sporting director Max Eberl. “He has been a big part and regular in the team for years and, in my opinion is one of the best central defenders in the Bundesliga.”

Elvedi has cemented himself as an important player at the heart of defence for Die Fohlen, playing 196 games in all competitions, and has also chipped in with ten goals. During his time at Borussia Mönchengladbach, Elvedi has become a Switzerland international, playing 18 times for the national team.

Speaking in July, Eberl stated that he intends to keep his best players at the club despite interest in Denis Zakaria and Marcus Thuram from elite European clubs. Signing Elvedi to a new long-term contract showcases his intent to keep first team players at the club.

Currently sitting tenth, Borussia Mönchengladbach find themselves six points off a European spot.
