According to Kicker, Freiburg have identified Werder Bremen midfielder Maximilian Eggestein as a replacement for Baptiste Santamaria who joined Rennes on Tuesday.
In addition, both Bild and DeichStube report that the 24-year-old will undergo a medical with the Bundesliga side on Wednesday.
Eggestein has a contract with Werder Bremen until 2023 but following relegation to the 2. Bundesliga, SVW sporting director Frank Baumann said last month that Eggestein would like to play in the top flight.
The Germany international would arrive at Freiburg as a like-for-like replacement for Santamaria who has joined Rennes for €14m after just one season in Germany.
