Bayern Munich President Herbert Hainer discusses Jamal Musiala, Der Klassiker & Erling Haaland

Speaking exclusively to Sport1, Bayern Munich President Herbert Hainer discussed Niklas Süle’s future, Jamal Musiala and Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland.

Hainer on if Bayern Munich can afford Haaland..

“We are an economically very strong and healthy club. Although were are also suffering massively from the pandemic, we can always bring in players if we are convinced of them. Just two weeks ago, Hasan Salihamidžić announced that we would sign one of the best centre-backs in Dayot Upamecano.”

If Bayern Munich would spend €75 million on one player in the next years..

“I can’t say that today. We are in a pandemic, the whole world is in an exceptional situation – socially, economically and in football. Things change every day. What is certain, however, is that in the future we will continue to pursue our successful path of signing young players with outstanding skill. The examples of Joshua Kimmich, Kingsley Coman Alphonso Davies and Jamal Musiala are proof that Bayern is a club where exceptional talents can develop into top international players.”

On Jamal Musiala..

“I personally like that Jamal Musiala can play several positions, both as a 10 and out wide. He’s very versatile and still so young, he just turned 18. I think he’s an interesting talent. We couldn’t sign a contract with him until he was 18 years old. You will have to be patient a little longer.”

On Niklas Süle’s future..

“I just realised that he now has technical skills – step-overs and everything. I wouldn’t have expected that. He’s an important player for us. We’ll set down with him in the spring.”

On Saturday’s Klassiker vs Borussia Dortmund..

“Bayern and Dortmund have been the dominant teams in the battle for the championship over the past ten years. We’ve been ahead by a nose for the past eight years but it is and will remain a top game.”
