Angeliño on his time at Manchester City: “Pep killed me and my confidence.”

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, RB Leipzig defender Angeliño discussed playing under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City and how his confidence was shot.

“Pep has killed me and my self-confidence,” said Angeliño. “After my move from PSV Eindhoven back to Manchester City, he had already judged me on two friendlies.”

Now playing under Julian Nagelsmann at RB Leipzig, Angeliño discussed the difference between Guardiola and the German: “They both like to play with the ball, get the ball quick, there is one thing that is a big difference – one gave me the confidence and played me and the other didn’t.

“In Leipzig, I felt trust from day one. The club and the coach gave me an incredible push. I’m happy to be able to play consistently in Leipzig.”

The 24-year-old Spaniard joined RB Leipzig on a permanent deal after the Bundesliga club triggered an €18 million purchase clause in Angeliño’s loan deal.

Under Nagelsmann, Angeliño has become an integral member of Nagelsmann’s squad, scoring eight and creating 11 in 31 games in all competitions at left-back this season.
