Mario Götze: “I never said that I had to leave the Bundesliga.”

Speaking in an interview with Bild, former Borussia Dortmund attacker Mario Götze wants to win the Champions League before he retires.

“I have ambitious goals and I really want to win the Champions League. That drives me every day, in every session. I don’t want to end my career without having won this title once,” said Götze.

The 28-year-old is available on a free transfer after his contract with BVB expired at the end of the season. Several clubs including AS Roma and Sevilla have shown interest, but nothing’s come to fruition yet.

“It was often presented as if my main concern was money. This is not the case,” added Götze. “I want to compete, prove myself at the highest level and show that I can help every team.”

Discussing his future, the German replied: “I never said that I had to leave the Bundesliga. There are several ambitious clubs in Germany.”
