Leon Goretzka & Joshua Kimmich raise more than €2.5m for charities & medical institutions affected by COVID-19

On Friday, Bayern Munich duo Leon Goretzka and Joshua Kimmich started the #WeKickCorona initiative and donated €1 million to help charitable associations & social institutions from all areas of society affected by COVID-19.

Mats Hummels, Jonas Hector, Julian Draxler, Leroy Sane, Julian Brandt, Sead Kolasinac and a host of other high-profile footballers have also joined the initiative which has now raised €2.5m.

“Germany stands still. Because of the Corona virus, concerts are canceled, cinemas are closed and football games are banned. Playgrounds are also affected by prohibition rules. Social life, togetherness is severely restricted. At the same time, charitable associations and social institutions, medical personnel and all system-relevant institutions that maintain the supply chain are doing a great job all over Germany – far beyond their personal and economic capacity limits,” read a statement on wekickcorona.com.
