Hertha Berlin would be willing to meet Weston McKennie demands; Monaco & Southampton interested

According to Sky Germany, Hertha Berlin lead the race to sign 21-year-old Schalke midfielder Weston McKennie.

The US international has attracted interest from Premier League club Southampton and Ligue 1 club AS Monaco. However, neither club want to meet Schalke’s €25 million asking price nor McKennie’s salary.

Per Sky, Southampton were surprised with the financial backing at Hertha and even with the imminent departure of Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, the Saints would not be willing to spend such a fee on a replacement.

French outlet L’Équipe reported yesterday that AS Monaco are in talks to sign McKennie after Niko Kovač was given the green light.

Fellow Bundesliga club Hertha would be willing to meet Schalke’s demands with the backing of investor Lars Windhorst.
