Fortuna Düsseldorf sack Friedhelm Funkel, Uwe Rösler expected to take charge

Fortuna Düsseldorf announced the dismissal of head coach Freidhelm Funkel on Wednesday morning with Uwe Rösler expected to take charge, according to Kicker.

The former Leeds United and Wigan manager recently left his post as Malmo head coach on January 1.

“We all knew that our second Bundesliga year would be very difficult and that we would be in a relegation battle. The entire course of the season has shown us that we have not yet managed to get the necessary points on the track. With 18 of our own goals, we are the poorest offensive and with 40 goals the third weakest defense in the Bundesliga. As a result, we no longer believe in the turnaround for relegation in the current constellation. Therefore, we had to react at this point in time,” said Fortuna sporting director Lutz Pfannenstiel.

Fortuna Düsseldorf currently sit rooted to the bottom of the Bundesliga after just one win in nine games.
