FC Köln are still chasing a permanent deal for Schalke striker Mark Uth; also interested in Paderborn’s Streli Mamba

Bild report this morning that FC Köln remain confident in making a move for Mark Uth permanent this summer from Schalke whilst the Bundesliga club are also looking at 26-year-old Paderborn forward Streli Mamba.

27-year-old German attacker Uth joined the Billy Goats on loan in January of last season and enjoyed a fantastic second half of the season, contributing 5 goals and 6 assists in 23 Bundesliga matches. The Köln born forward is said to be very interested in moving permanently to his hometown club.

Köln’s need for another striker became apparent yesterday as fan-favourite Simon Terrode departed the RheinEnergie Stadion for second division side Hamburger SV. His departure leaves boss Markus Gisdol with only two recognised strikers at his disposal, Jhon Cordoba and Anthony Modeste.

“Mark left a big hole on us. He was involved in almost every goal. We haven’t written him off yet and we hope that he’ll come to us in the end” Gisdol told press at the club’s training camp in Donaueschingen.

Bild are also reporting that FC Köln remain very interested in Paderborn forward Mumba this summer. The marksman enjoyed a solid first season with Paderborn after joining the club from Energie Cottbus last summer; scoring 5 goals in 24 Bundesliga appearances.

Köln Director Horst Heldt confirmed the club’s interest yesterday. “We are interested in him because he has attributes and qualities that we don’t yet have on a broad front in the squad. That is why we would like to sign him.”
