Oliver Mintzlaff on Timo Werner’s contract: “He would rather not extend it.”

RB Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff has confirmed that Timo Werner will not be signing a contract extension with the Bundesliga club.

“We want to extend it with him, but he signalled that he would rather not extend it,” Mintzlaff told Sky Germany.

Werner’s contract expires in 2020 and so RB Leipzig would need to sell in the upcoming summer transfer window or risk losing him on a free transfer.

Both Liverpool and Bayern Munich have previously shown an interest in the 23-year-old.
