Hansi Flick on January transfers: “An addition at right back would be helpful.”

Speaking in an extensive interview with Kicker, Bayern Munich head coach Hansi Flick discussed the January transfer window, the impact of Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry and the future of Jerome Boateng.

On whether Bayern Munich will sign players in January..

“We have already discussed this internally. We’re always observing the market and will only be active if we are absolutely convinced. Leroy Sané is still a Manchester City player, therefore I’m not thinking about him at the moment.

“Benjamin Pavard does well in every position but especially well at centre back. Therefore an addition at right back would be helpful.

“Winter transfers always bring something to a team if they help immediately. I am in exchange with Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Hasan Salihamidžić.”

On Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry..

“He’s [Coman] great in one on one situations but every now and then he has to use his first touch and cross the ball more precisely because it’s difficult for a striker to score if the cross is not precise. We have to solve such situations collectively and Kingsley can be decisive.

“Serge has an incredible dynamic when he accelerates with the ball. I am pleased with his development. I saw him with Joachim Löw when he played for Arsenal for the first time in the Champions League and we spoke about him right away.”

On the future of Jerome Boateng..

“I’m always clear with him. We speak openly about the deficits. Against Wolfsburg, he came in and had some problems but then showed that he has the quality to play at Bayern. Jerome has to make the decision about his future because it’s about his career.”
