Schalke have fallen short in their pursuit of Lille forward Nicolas Pépé, with the 23-year-old instead opting for a move to Olympique Lyon, according to L’Équipe.
It was believed that a deal over €25 million was agreed between Schalke and Lille, but the Bundesliga side have been rebuffed by the Ivorian.
Wolfsburg could now take advantage of Pépé’s likely arrival at Lyon with the Bundesliga club looking to make a move for 21-year-old Maxwel Cornet before Friday’s deadline, according to Kicker.
