Philipp Lahm to retire; rejects sporting director role

Philipp Lahm will retire at the end of the season. whilst declining the role of sporting director at Bayern Munich, per a SportBild exclusive.

Despite having a contract at 2018, the World Cup winner will hang up his boots and end his playing career.

Uli Hoeneß wanted Lahm to succeed Matthias Sammer as sporting director, but after several talks with the club hierarchy, Lahm will not take up the role in the near future.

Lahm wants to use his time off to prepare himself for a potential future at the club.
