Official | Sven Bender signs for Bayer Leverkusen

Bayer Leverkusen have confirmed the signing of Sven Bender from Borussia Dortmund. The Germany international signs a four-year deal for a fee believed to be around €15m, according to Kicker.

In a statement released by BVB, it emerged that Bender had asked to leave the club after eight years: “Only a few days ago, I approached [CEO] Aki Watzke and [sporting director director] Michael Zorc to ask a personal favour. After eight years at Dortmund, I wanted them to grant me a new challenge,” says Bender.

Leverkusen’s sporting director Rüdi Voller told the club’s website: “We are delighted that Sven has decided to join us. He’s an extraordinary experienced and versatile player, who most recently at Dortmund demonstrated his class at the centre-back position.”

After 224 competitive matches for Borussia Dortmund, Sven leaves the club to join brother Lars at Bayer Leverkusen.
