Official | Anthony Modeste joins Tianjin Quanjian

Anthony Modeste has left 1. FC Köln for Chinese Super League club Tianjin Quanjian, the club confirmed on Wednesday evening, for a fee reported to be around €35.7 million.

Just two weeks ago, Cologne had ceased negotiations “after the parties involved were not able to reach an agreement” before Tianjin Quanjian made a move for the 29-year-old once again.

After lengthy negotiations, the CSL club got their player.

Modeste arrived from Hoffenheim for €4.5m in 2015 and has since gone on to 40 Bundesliga goals for Cologne in just 68 games, finishing behind Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Robert Lewandowski last season.

Tianjin Quanjian signing the Frenchman will of course mean they will no longer target Aubameyang or Chelsea’s Douglas Costa.

To coincide with the deal, Cologne completed the signing of Jhon Cordoba last week from 1. FSV Mainz 05 for a club record €17m.
