Bayer Leverkusen appoint Tayfun Korkut as head coach

Bayer Leverkusen have appointed Tayfun Korkut as their new head coach following the dismissal of Roger Schmidt on Sunday, the club confirmed.

The former has held recent managerial positions at both Hannover 96 and Kaiserslautern. The 42-year-old has signed a deal until the end of season.

“We have signed a coach in Tayfun Korkut who has great knowledge of the game, outstanding connections and lots of experience on the international stage both as a player and as a coach. We are looking to come through this difficult phase with him and finished the season well,” Leverkusen CEO Michael Schade told their official website.

“Tayfun Korkut is a seasoned and modern coach and his approach the game fits in very well with Bayer 04 Leverkusen. We are optimistic we can get back on track with him,” said sporting director Rudi Völler.
