1. FC Köln trio sign new deals

1.FC Köln have extended the contracts of captain Matthias Lehmann, Frederik Sørensen and Marcel Risse.

Lehmann, 33, has signed a one-year extension as he continues his recovery from injury, whilst teammate and defender Sørensen, 24, has signed a new deal until 2021.

27-year-old Risse will now remain at the club until 2022, which will provide a boost to the winger who suffered an ACL injury in early December.

“Freddie Sorensen is a top professional, who can play the defensive positions with a high degree of variability. His calm presence fits splendidly into our team and he has proved in the one-and-a-half years with us as a center back and right-back how important he is to this team,” says head coach Peter Stöger.

“It brings me great joy to be part of this team and to play in the Bundesliga with FC. Following my switch from Serie A, I have lived here for one-and-a-half years that have brought me further as a player. I am glad to continue on this path with FC and am confident that this team, along with its incredible fans, can become successful,” said Frederik Sorensen.

“I know what I have with FC. I can feel a sense of continuity and trust with this group. These are traits that distinguish 1. FC Köln for me. The fact that we agreed on the extension during my rehabilitation process symbolizes how much they value me, for which I am very thankful,” says Marcel Risse.
