Bayer Leverkusen manager Roger Schmidt bemoaned the ‘cruel’ nature of football after his side were forced to settle for a draw against AS Monaco in the group stage match of the UEFA Champions League.
The Bundesliga side lead through a 17th minute goal from Mexican striker Javier Hernandez but were left stunned by a equalizer from AS Monaco defender Kamil Glik in the fifth minute of second half stoppage time.
” It’s a pity, because we played very well, the lead was deserved and a win would have been deserved as well.” Schmidt told a press conference
“However, football can be cruel sometimes and we have to accept that and move on to the next game.” Schmidt concluded.
