Arsene Wenger has confirmed that captain Per Mertesacker will miss the start of Arsenal’s Premier League campaign through injury.
The World Cup winner withdrew from the Gunners’ US tour with a knee injury, before Wenger confirmed that the German will be out for “a few months”.
Mertesacker’s injury could force Wenger into the market for another central-defender, whilst they could look at Shkodran Mustafi, according to Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianelli.
