Karl-Heinz Rummenigge criticises Manchester United’s handling of Bastian Schweinsteiger

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Ottmar Hitzfeld have criticised José Mourinho’s decision to relegate former Bayern Munich and Germany midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger to the Manchester United reserves.

“I could hardly believe it. One or two players are going to think long and hard in future about whether they want to go to such a club. Nothing like that has ever happened at Bayern Munich,” Rummenigge told Bild.

However, Felix Magath had forced the 32-year-old to train with the Bayern reserves in 2005, before forcing his way back into the first team.

Hitzfeld also gave his opinion, telling Sky Sport in Germany that “Schweinsteiger has been a key player, a world champion, a personality, and with it a player, who is also an outstanding human being. Such a player does not deserve that at all.”
