AS Monaco 1-1 Bayer Leverkusen: UCL Group E recap

Chicharito’s 100th goal in European club football was cancelled out by Kamil Glik’s equaliser with the last kick of the match as AS Monaco drew Bayer 04 Leverkusen  1-1 at Stade Louis II Tuesday night in Group E of the UEFA Champions League.

Roger Schmidt’s Werkself side weren’t put under fire by hosts Monaco until late. Prior to the 73rd minute Javier Hernández header, Les Rouges et Blancs were happy to sit back and take a point.

Glik struck four minutes into stoppage time, ripping a volley from nearly thirty yards out past a stunned Bernd Leno in the Leverkusen goal. It was devastation for the visitors who thought they’d earned three points.

Hernández hitting top form:

It’s Chicharito’s fourth goal in two games following his hat-trick last weekend. Without his finishing, Leverkusen could be in some serious trouble. They’re still allowing too many goals.

This will be a tight group:

Tottenham Hotspur took three points in Moscow, and now sit second in the group. Monaco lead, with four points. CSKA are bottom with one, and Bayer Leverkusen are third with two.

Bundesliga Topspiel a must-watch this weekend:

Saturday’s late kickoff at the BayArena between Bayer 04 and Borussia Dortmund should be a great way to wrap up the day’s action in Germany. Dortmund, in second, are just three points behind Bayern Munich. Leverkusen could jump from 10th to seventh with a victory. BVB are coming off a draw against Real Madrid, and will be expecting to win. After dropping two more points in the Champions League, Schmidt’s seat is growing warmer by the day at Leverkusen.
